Governor Abbott calls for minute of silence to honor victims in Paris terrorist attack

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Texas Governor Greg Abbott called for a minute of silence to honor the memory of the victims of the Parris terrorist attacks.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Texas Governor Greg Abbott called for a minute of silence to honor the memory of the victims of the Parris terrorist attacks.

The call comes Sunday, after the death toll from the attacks rose to 129 people, for a minute of silence on Monday, November 16, 2015, at noon. Texas will join 28 nations in the European Union in the moment of silence.

"Texas' solidarity and longstanding relationship with France is well established," stated Abbott on Sunday. "When Texas declared its independence from Mexico, France was among the first nations to recognize that independence. We have not forgotten France's commitment to the Lone Star State and Texas will join with other states and nations tomorrow to honor the victims and condemn the cowardly terrorist attacks.”

“I urge all Texans to hold a minute of silence at noon tomorrow and pray for the victims and families of the despicable attacks that took place in Paris,” stated Abbott.

Following the attacks on Friday, Abbott issued the following statement:

“Today’s despicable attacks in France are an assault to all of humanity, and the world must unite to condemn acts of terrorism on every front. My office has been in contact with DPS and federal authorities who will continue to monitor the situation in Texas. Additionally, I have spoken with the Consulate General of France in Houston to offer any and all assistance on behalf of the State of Texas. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims and all those affected in France tonight."
