HEATH, Texas — A Heath Department of Public Safety officer was presented a Life Saving Award for actions taken in June 2017 while off-duty in Rockwall.
Several other officers were presented with uniform bars for volunteering in Dallas following a deadly police ambush last year.
Last week, Heath DPS Director Terry Garret presented Officer Casey Northcutt the Life Saving Award for his “quick and decisive actions” on June 3, 2017.
Northcutt was at Harry Myers Park in Rockwall, Texas, while off-duty with his family when he witnessed a citizen experiencing a major life-threatening medical event, believed to be a heart attack.
Northcutt rushed to the citizen’s side where he found no pulse or breathing and immediately began CPR, according to Garrett.
Garrett says Northcutt continued CPR until Rockwall County EMS arrived and applied an EKG and oxygen. The patient had already gained a strong pulse and was transported to an area hospital where it was confirmed the man had suffered a heart attack.
“Quick recognition, effective CPR, and the immediate actions of Officer Northcutt saved a life that day,” Garrett said. “Casey’s skills, initiative, performance, and motivation were in all respects outstanding as reflected in the outcome of this incident and reflect the values and standards of the Heath Department of Public Safety.”
Seven officers were presented uniform bars for volunteering shifts in Dallas, Texas, following a deadly police ambush last year. The volunteered shifts allowed Dallas Police Department officers to attend the funerals of their fellow police officers.
“These officers provided over 100 hours of duty time for the citizens of Dallas,” Garrett said.
Garrett recognized the following with uniform bars:
Sgt. Brian Burton
Sgt. Jevin Womack
Sgt. Brandon Seery
Ofcr Michael Morgan
Ofcr Kaleb Hazard
Ofcr David Florance
Ofcr Greg Givens
