FORNEY, Texas — Firefighters suited up in wetsuits Thursday and Friday as heavy rainfall prompted two separate water rescue incidents in Forney.
Thursday morning, the Forney Fire Department and Forney Police Department responded to the north service road of U.S. Highway 80 just west of Lovers Lane for a vehicle that had stalled in high water.
A mother and her child were safely rescued from the vehicle. The high-water barricades, which normally block the service road during flood events, reportedly came open overnight which allowed for the woman to drive on the service road.
Late Friday night, emergency personnel responded to a Jeep reportedly underwater on Farm-to-Market (FM) 740 just east of FM 460. A 911 caller stated she saw the headlights of a vehicle that was partially submerged approximately 150 to 200 feet from the road.
Emergency personnel located the Jeep in the flood waters surrounding Buffalo Creek. The Jeep was later determined to be unoccupied after firefighters suited up in their wetsuits and waded through approximately 50 feet of 4-foot deep waters.
Police later made contact with the registered owner of the Jeep at a nearby residence. The owner was aware of the vehicle’s current state and told police the vehicle was unoccupied.
Emergency personnel believe the vehicle’s headlights and taillights remained on due to an electrical short from the vehicle being partially submerged in water.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
