FORNEY, Texas — Helms Trail in Forney was closed in several places on Thursday afternoon due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall, according to emergency officials.
One home has begun taking on flood water and several other homes in the area are also being threatened by flood water, Forney Fire Department Chief Rick Townsend told inForney.com.
Just before 2:30 p.m., the Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management received calls of water flowing over Helms Trail in the 11000 block.
The Forney Fire Department responded to the area and closed the road between Bantry Lane and Blarney Stone Way. Helms Trail in between Woodbridge and Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641 was also closed due to high water.
Several other homes on Helms Trail and Blarney Stone Way are also being threatened by rising water. Firefighters are making contact with nearby residents and issuing voluntary evacuations. Mandatory evacuations have not been ordered.
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for all of north Texas until 1 p.m. Friday.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, and Precinct 2 Road and Bridge crews are also on scene.
Helms Trail is expected to remain closed until the flood waters recede. Its unknown if the flooding has caused any damage to the roadway at this time.
