FORNEY, Texas — A high-speed police pursuit which began just south of Forney on Friday afternoon ended in a wreck in Mesquite.
The pursuit began after a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to stop a black 1998 Honda Civic on Interstate 20 near Farm-to-Market (FM) 740 around 12:44 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Kyle Bradford told inForney.com.
“For an as yet undetermined reason, the driver chose not to stop and to evade police,” stated Bradford.
The pursuit continued westbound on Interstate 20 at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
The driver continued to flee northbound on Interstate 635 and eventually exited Gross Road after his vehicle began smoking and appeared to experience mechanical issues.
On Gross, the driver fled east and entered into a residential area, fled down an alley between Versailles Street and Royal Crest Drive, and struck a utility police attempting to pass a service truck in the narrow alleyway.
The pursuit ended at approximately 1:05 p.m., according to Bradford.
The Mesquite Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene due to the driver sustaining non-life threatening injuries in the wreck.
The driver, who has not been identified, will be arrested and face charges for evading arrest or detention in a vehicle.
A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter and the Mesquite Police Department also joined the pursuit.
