What started in 2007 with one local church has become so much more. Five years later, a group of 5 local churches and volunteers are doing their part to help positively impact our community.

IMPACT My Community is actually the name of an a partnership of churches that helps organize volunteers and assist local families in many different ways. With an amazing 53 total projects this past weekend, many local residents are getting the help they so desperately need.

Shaun Coley, the director of IMPACT My Community stated, “Our focus is to help the individuals or families who are elderly, disabled, low-income, or single parents. We do anything from minor home repairs, lawn work, help fix conditions that have led to citations people have received from the city, help clean around the house, and help with food and clothing needs.”

inForney.com was able to see firsthand the amazing things this group of volunteers is doing for our community. We spoke with Chris Krager who was the site leader for the project we attended. Krager said they scraped and repainted trim, removed and cleaned storm windows, replaced some rotten trim boards, and did a little landscaping. All of the materials and tools were either donated or brought by the volunteers. The homeowner was an elderly woman in her 90's who is no longer able to do these things for herself.

Krager and Coley both helped explain the process by which they are able to go out and perform these service projects. An IMPACT Assistance Application must be completed by the homeowner or person needing assistance. Once the application is submitted, the project site will be evaluated to determine its needs. This process of evaluation helps the directors and the project coordinators plan for materials and tools associated with each project, along with the number of volunteers needed to complete the many projects.

People and families in need can receive and application in several different ways. The form can be completed online or downloaded at ImpactMyCommunity.com, by mail by contacting IMPACT my Community at (972) 564-9553 (option 6), or in person by picking up the application at a partnering church.
