KAUFMAN COUNTY—Kaufman County and TXDOT propose constructing a new alignment roadway from SH 205 to south of I-20, with interchanges at US 80 and I-20.

According to TXDOT’s website, the project is crucial as the current infrastructure falls short in providing adequate ‘mobility and regional connectivity’ between Kaufman County and the DFW Metroplex. They also highlight that the existing infrastructure is ill-equipped to handle future demands.

“The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right of way and potentially displace three commercial, one residential, and seven non-residential structures,” says TXDOT. “The proposed project would involve construction in wetlands. The proposed project would involve an action in a floodplain.”

A virtual and in-person meeting is scheduled for June 6, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The virtual option runs from 5 p.m. on June 6th through 11:59 p.m. on June 21st. TXDOT must receive all comments on or before June 21, 2024.

The in-person meeting will be held at the Kaufman Civic Center at 607 East Fair Street.
