MABANK, Texas — The Kaufman County Fire Chief’s and Firefighter’s Association (KCFCFA) held its Annual Fall Rescue School on October 5th thru October 7th , 2018 this past weekend.
This School is provided to all Kaufman County Firefighters and firefighters from surrounding counties in an effort to train firefighters with various types of rescue situations such as common vehicle accident rescues, heavy equipment rescues, confined space rescues, and water rescues. This is at minimal or no cost to the firefighters. Funding for the class is provided by a Kaufman County budget, annual dues, fundraisers, and Texas Forest Service grants.
Courses at this year’s school consisted of ‘Vehicle Extrication Technician II’, ’Courage To Be Safe’, and ‘Wildland Assessment’.
The ‘Wildland Assessment’ class is an introductory class for newer firefighters, and is the beginning of a series of classes for firefighters to obtain a Wildland Certification.
The ‘Courage To Be Safe’ class is a State mandated class for all firefighters coming into the fire service. This class covers many safety concerns and best practices to help firefighters develop and maintain a “mindset of safety” throughout their careers.
The ‘Vehicle Extrication Technician II’ class is the last of three (3) classes that covers rescue techniques on collisions involving heavy duty vehicles such as 18 wheel tractor trailers, box trucks, school buses, tankers, and large delivery trucks. Firefighters will receive a State Certification after completion of these courses.
Kaufman County fire departments that attended this year’s Rescue School were Ables Springs FD, College Mound FD, Forney FD, Kemp FD, and Mabank FD. Other fire departments that attended were Pittsburg FD, Campbell FD, and Flint-Gresham FD.
The Kaufman County Fire Chief’s and Firefighter’s Association extends a special thanks and recognition to Harvey’s Exxon Wrecker Service, United Parcel Service, College Mound Rehab Unit, and the City of Mabank for donating equipment and services, helping make this another successful year of training.
