CRANDALL, Texas — The Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a structure and vehicular fire which occurred on Friday morning.
Just before 10 a.m., several area fire departments responded to the fire on Griffin Lane which is located in between Farm-to-Market (FM) 2932 and FM 741 just south of the Heartland neighborhood.
En route, firefighters reported visible thick black smoke and, upon their arrival, reported three vehicles, a large trash pile, and a mobile home on fire.
The Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office began investigating reports of arson and, upon approaching the named individual for an interview, he became combative. The fire marshal on scene was assisted by firefighters and other law enforcement agencies in subduing the combative individual, whose name has not been released.
Kaufman County Fire Marshal Randy Richards says the individual was arrested on an unrelated felony warrant and was transported by the Crandall Police Department to the Kaufman County Jail.
The Crandall Fire Department, Kaufman Fire Department, Terrell Fire Department, Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, and the Sunnyvale Fire Department responded to the fire. Several of the departments responded on behalf of the Forney Fire Department which was attending the funeral of its volunteer department’s assistant chief, Jamie Barkham.
Richards says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The home was reportedly unoccupied and abandoned.
