Vehicle owners must still pay the $7.50 safety inspection fee collected at registration. For new vehicle registrations, a $16.75 Inspection Program Replacement Fee covers the first two years of registration.
State law will still require a passing vehicle emissions inspection before obtaining vehicle registration in 17 Texas counties, including Kaufman, Dallas, Rockwall, Ellis, Tarrant, and others.
