Kaufman County officials sworn in to office

KAUFMAN, Texas — Kaufman County elected officials were sworn in at the Courthouse during a New Year’s Day ceremony Tuesday morning.

KAUFMAN, Texas — Kaufman County elected officials were sworn in at the Courthouse during a New Year’s Day ceremony Tuesday morning.

Outgoing County Judge Bruce Wood installed incoming County Judge Hal Richards who proceeded over the swearing in of county officials.

New officials sworn in included county treasurer Chuck Mohnkern, Commissioner Pct.4 Ken Cates and Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Amy Tarno.

Officials returning to their posts, and sworn to another term included county clerk Laura Hughes, Commissioner Pct. 1 Mike Hunt and Commissioner Pct. 2 Skeet Phillips.

The Justice court judges were also sworn in for another term including Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Mary Bardin, Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Mike Smith and Justice of the Peace Pct. 4 Johnny Adams.

422nd District and the county's administrative judge Mike Chitty administered the oath to the remaining judiciary including another term by 86th District Judge Casey Blair and County Court at Law #2 Judge Bobby Rich.

Tracy Gray is the newest member on the judicial bench who was elected to the Kaufman County Court at law and was sworn in for the first time and was officially robed for service on the bench.

District Clerk Rhonda Hughey and District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley also took their oaths for another term. The District Attorney’s office assistant prosecutors were also sworn in at the conclusion of the ceremony.

New officials terms are effective immediately, and while County offices are closed today, most will reopen tomorrow for normal business.
