Even though the burn ban has been lifted, the Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office urges citizens to use caution when burning brush or common household trash near lawns or pastures.
The dead grasses will dry out within a few days of windy conditions, and could ignite if someone is negligent in preparing a proper area to burn.
The Fire Marshal’s Office also wants to remind everyone that only brush, branches, and leaves can be burned directly on the ground. Any other items burned on the ground are illegal and can result in fines. Common household trash may be burned in a barrel with a spark screen on top and a water hose available for extinguishment.
All fires must be monitored the entire time of burning and no burning should be performed after dark.
