Lieutenant Charles Stastny of the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office(KCSO) passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, due to illness. Lt. Stastny was a 25 year veteran at the sheriff's office, he began his work there in 1987.
Lieutenant Charles Stastny of the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office(KCSO) passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, due to illness. Lt. Stastny was a 25 year veteran at the sheriff's office, he began his work there in 1987.
While serving, Lt. Stastney earned his Master Peace Officer's License, served on the KCSO SWAT team, he was awarded multiple commendations, and was honored as the Kaufman County Deputy of the Year in 1997-1998.
In a statement released to the press, Sheriff David Byrnes stated on behalf of the officers and staff at KCSO, "How fortunate we at the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office are to have been associated with him in the time he spent with us. To the family of Lt. Charles Stastny, please know that his enthusiasm for the people he loved, his sense of dedication, his ability to make those around him feel special, and his eternal optimism will be sorely missed. He was a man of incredible moral character and lived his life with dignity and grace."
