KAUFMAN COUNTY—The aftermath of an early morning storm has left many without power, with downed branches and power lines. It has also led to delayed openings in Kaufman County, problems with pump stations and backup generators in Forney. Election Day hours have been extended until 8 p.m.
Kaufman County Judge Jakie Allen told inForney.com that he will issue a disaster declaration this morning.
“Kaufman County has sustained high wind damage, and emergency personnel and management are working swiftly to evaluate and mitigate. If you have an emergency, please call 911,” said Judge Allen.
Forney Communications Director Zach Smith told inForney.com that the city is urging residents to conserve water as they are experiencing problems with Pump Stations and generators.
“Due to electrical issues caused by the storms, Forney is experiencing problems with pump stations and backup generators. Contractors are working to restore service,” said Smith. “In the meantime, we ask Forney residents to please conserve water and use it only for essential needs. Thank you for your cooperation.”
In Terrell, Alison Walker told inForney.com that the Utility Billing Department will open at noon. At the time of publishing, inForney.com could not communicate with Terrell’s Emergency Management Coordinator.
Today is the Primary Run-Off Election, and Kaufman County Elections Administrator Tandi Smith told inForney.com that there is flooding at specific locations and power loss at others.
“Voting locations are experiencing water issues and power outages. Backup generators are on the way as they become available, and polls will stay open until 8 p.m.,” said Smith. “We encourage the community to be safe as they vote and to be patient as we all work through this unexpected event together.”
This morning, Kaufman County was hit with strong winds and heavy rainfall, and many areas have sustained damage. If you require emergency services, please call 9-1-1. Emergency sirens can be heard across the county as mitigation efforts commence.
