SCURRY, Texas — Four area fire departments and the Texas A&M Forest Service responded to a large brush fire in Scurry on Friday afternoon.

The fire, off Shady Lane in the Scurry area, is at 100 percent containment as of 4 p.m., according to Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie.

Despite the containment, Howie says the departments are now faced with a lot of overhaul to prevent re-ignition of the fire.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the fire, described as thorn-related, possibly from a Mesquite tree.

The Texas A&M Forest Service dispatched three dozer crews to the fire alongside firefighters from Scurry, Rosser, Kaufman, and Kemp.

At last estimate, the fire consumed approximately 30 acres.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, Kaufman County is under a very high risk for fire danger. The county is currently under a burn ban.

The Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
