ARLINGTON, Texas — Local law enforcement officials were honored tonight by the Texas Rangers baseball club as part of their season opening weekend. Forney natives, Danny Shaw and his brother Bryan Shaw, were asked to throw the first pitch; while Forney Police officer Pedro Moreno performed a hair-raising rendition of the national anthem.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Danny Shaw and his younger brother, Dallas County Community College District Police Department Corporal Bryan Shaw, say it was an honor to be invited by the Rangers.

“Being a law enforcement family has brought us together," stated Bryan Shaw. "And I am honored that I get this experience with my brother and our families.”

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity," stated Danny Shaw.

In November 2016, Trooper Shaw, of Forney, Texas, was shot while on assignment on the Texas-Mexico border when a firefight erupted on the Mexico side of the Rio Grande.

In July 2016, Corporal Shaw was injured in the line of duty during a deadly shooting in Dallas, Texas, in which five police officers were killed.

“So nice that they would show support for law enforcement and honor us this way," stated Bryan Shaw. “We appreciate how precious life is now. And we’re enjoying every minute of it.”

Officer Moreno, the first in his family to pursue law enforcement, has been singing professionally since he was 12 years old in a mariachi band with his father and brothers. He joined the Forney Police Department in March 2017.

“I am very honored and excited about the opportunity to do this. From singing at my police academy graduation, to a Rangers game, I never imagined it would go this far," stated Moreno.

The Rangers hosted the Chicago Cubs for the final time at Globe Life Park. The team will move in to the retractable-roof Globe Life Field in 2020.
