FORNEY, Texas — Thunderstorms swept across North Texas on Thursday evening bringing with it lightning that reportedly struck a vehicle and a house in the Forney area in separate incidents — sparking a house fire and causing widespread power outages across Kaufman County.
FORNEY, Texas — Thunderstorms swept across North Texas on Thursday evening bringing with it lightning that reportedly struck a vehicle and a house in the Forney area in separate incidents — sparking a house fire and causing widespread power outages across Kaufman County.
According to Oncor, as of 7:54 p.m., approximately 4,007 customers were without power in Kaufman County. Of those, approximately 3,800 are located in the Terrell area.
At the same time, Trinity Valley Electric Co-op is reporting approximately 1,072 of their Kaufman County customers are without power.
At approximately 5:50 p.m., the Forney Fire Department responded to eastbound U.S. Highway 80 east of Farm-to-Market(FM) 548 for a motorist who reported their vehicle was struck by lightning. The vehicle was inoperable and towed. No injuries were reported.
At approximately 6 p.m., a motorist stalled in high water at Heritage Hill Drive and requested assistance from emergency personnel. The driver and an infant were able to escape without injury.
Just after 6:20 p.m., a residential structure fire was reported in the new construction area in the northern portion of the Devonshire neighborhood.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the attic of the home. Mutual aid was requested from Terrell, Crandall, and Rockwall.
Oncor is estimating restoration of power between 10:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. on many of their outages.
