FORNEY, Texas — A 43-year-old man was arrested over the weekend for an aggravated assault of an off-duty University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) police officer during an alleged theft incident at Lowes in Forney.
43-year-old Jacob Wilson III was allegedly attempting to steal several tool kits from Lowes when the off-duty UTD officer observed a clerk confronting Wilson, Forney Police Department Captain Jason “Rocky” Ray told inForney.com.
The UTD officer identified himself as an off-duty police officer and gave further verbal commands to Wilson before he attempted to flee on foot through the parking lot, according to Ray.
Wilson struck the off-duty officer in the face several times and warned the officer to release him because he had a gun and he would shoot him, Ray said.
Forney Police Department officers arrived on scene and Wilson was taken into custody.
Ray says none of the responding Forney Police Department officers were injured during the incident.
Wilson is being held at the Kaufman County Jail and now faces charges for aggravated assault of a public servant with a $250,000 bond, resisting arrest, search, or transport with a $7,500 bond, and theft of property greater than or equal to $750 and less than $2,500 on a $6,000 bond.
