TERRELL, Texas — A Mesquite, Texas, man was seriously injured after wrecking a stolen motorcycle while attempting to flee police in Terrell on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident began at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Pebble Creek Lane.

Terrell Police Department Chief Jody Lay told inForney.com police were at a residence on an unrelated investigation checking the welfare of a child when the man pulled up to the residence on a motorcycle.

Upon contact, officers determined the man, later identified as 33-year-old James Robert Bridges of Mesquite, Texas, was wanted on felony charges, stated Lay.

Bridges jumped on the motorcycle, which was later determined to be stolen out of Arlington, Texas, and fled north on North Frances Street at a high rate of speed, failed to maneuver a curve in the road, and wrecked in the 1900 block of North Frances Street — a short distance from where the pursuit began.

Police say Bridges attempted to run but collapsed from his injuries. He was taken into custody but later released to be flown to Methodist Dallas Medical Center with non-life threatening, but serious injuries, according to Lay.

Police discovered a handgun where Bridges attempted to flee on foot.

"[Bridges] will face a number of felony charges in Kaufman County," stated Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom in a Wednesday update. "All of which will be filed on him at-large while he recuperates from his injuries sustained in the crash."
