At approximately 1:40 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013, a Union Pacific train traveling westbound came to a halt in downtown Forney, Texas, and kept the four major downtown railroad crossings closed for approximately 45 minutes during the Forney Arts Council's “2nd Saturdays.”

According to Union Pacific Railroad representative Raquel Espinoza, the train was experiencing mechanical issues related to an air hose and needed to stop immediately to address the issues. Espinoza apologized on behalf of Union Pacific Railroad for the delay at the crossings.

“When our trains experience any mechanical issues or failures they stop immediately to repair and/or inspect them before continuing,” said Espinoza.

The 82-car train was carrying fully assembled automobiles and was accompanied by two locomotives. The crossings affected by the stoppage were Bois D' Arc Street, Elm Street, Center Street, and South Chestnut Street. The locomotive came to a stop near the Hillcrest Cemetery and the end of the train was just past the FM 548 crossing leaving it as the only open railroad crossing.
