The Toys for Tots program began back in 1947 and it is still going strong today. It seems each year there are more requests from less fortunate families who need help to get their children a toy for Christmas. Two Forney organizations are working to help collect toys for the Toys for Tots 2012 drive. Our local softball league, MESA, is hosting a tournament December 8 - 9 and will collect toys on the 9th. The Forney Fire Department will be playing in a football game against the Terrell Fire Department on December 8 and will be collecting new, unwrapped toys as entry into the game.

MESA Toys for Tots Tournament
MESA will be hosting this softball tournament all day Saturday and Sunday, December 8 - 9. All of the participating teams are donating toys as part of their registration fee. This is an official Toys for Tots event. MESA volunteers will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for ages newborn to 13 years of age at a drive thru drop off in the parking lot at Forney Community Park near the Softball Complex on December 9, from 6 - 9 p.m. Come watch some great softball games and be sure to drop off a toy for a needy child during the collection event!
Forney Fire Department vs Terrell Fire Department 6 on 6 flag football game
Our Forney Firefighters will be meeting the Terrell Fire Department in a rematch from last years game played in Terrell in which the Forney team won 35-6. Terrell will be looking to even the score at this flag football game on Saturday, December 8 at 3 p.m. at City Bank Stadium in Forney. Most of the paid staff and a few of the volunteer firefighters from Forney will be playing in the game.
Admission to the game is one new, unwrapped toy. The toys will go to the DFW area as needed. The Marines will be there to collect the toys and the Forney High School JROTC will be conducting a flag ceremony. The JROTC will also be running the concession stand during the game. Please come on out and support our local heroes and their goal of collecting hundreds of toys for the Toys for Tots program!
