Mesquite, TX – March 24, 2025 – Mesquite broke ground on Monday on a new fire station that will serve the fast-growing Kaufman County portion of the City.

Fire Station 8, which is expected to be completed in January 2026, will be located on FM 2757 near FM 740.

“Our City has grown tremendously in recent years, and we’re not done yet. This new Fire Station is proof of that,” said Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr. “We are experiencing a surge in population and economic activity we haven’t seen in many years. Because of all this incredible growth, we accelerated construction of Station 8.”

The U.S. Census Bureau released figures on March 13 that show that Kaufman County was the fastest-growing county in the State of Texas and the second-fastest growing county in the nation from July 2023 to July 2024.

In the Kaufman County area of Mesquite known as Trinity Pointe, more than 4,000 homes are planned and being built, and retail and commercial development are underway. A 284-acre business park is taking shape at Interstate 20 and FM 2932 called 20 East Trinity Pointe, and the City is working with several retail developers on projects in the Heartland area.

Station 8 will be a 15,700 square-foot, state-of-the-art, full-service station with an engine, ambulances, and a water tower. It also will have a workspace for Mesquite Police officers serving that area.

“Station 8 will allow our first responders to significantly improve their response time and provide better, faster service to residents,” said Fire Chief Keith Hopkins. “We appreciate the support of our residents, who overwhelmingly passed the tax rate election in 2023, making this and many other important projects possible.”

Station 8 is the first brand-new station built in Mesquite in more than 30 years. The City has rebuilt nearly every fire station over the years and is currently in the process of renovating Station 2. The last fire station built from the ground up was Station 7 in 1993.
