Multi-county fire response to grass, structure fire on SH 34

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Fire departments from Hunt and Kaufman County, the Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Texas Forestry Service responded to a large grass, brush, and structure fire on Sunday, October 11, 2015.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Fire departments from Hunt and Kaufman County, the Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Texas Forestry Service responded to a large grass, brush, and structure fire on Sunday, October 11, 2015.

As of 2 p.m., Kaufman County Deputy Fire Marshal John Garvin said the fire has been contained as firefighters continue to fight hot spots and fire patches inside the containment zone.

Approximately 10 acres of grass, thick brush, and trees were involved in the fire and a shed and mobile home were destroyed. A second mobile home was also damaged.

The Texas Forestry Service dispatched a dozer to cut a fire line to assist in containing the fire.

Some pipeline equipment and related structures were also threatened by the fire, according to Kaufman County Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie.

Fire departments include the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, City of Terrell Fire Department, Forney Fire Department, Ables Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Combine Volunteer Fire Department, Crandall Fire Department, Elmo Volunteer Fire Department, Quinlan Volunteer Fire Department, and the Tawakoni South Volunteer Fire Department. The American Red Cross has also been dispatched.

The Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
