CRANDALL, Texas — Multiple fire departments from Kaufman and Dallas County battled a large grass fire in Crandall on Friday afternoon.

Kaufman County Fire Marshal Randy Richards says, based on preliminary mapping, the fire burned approximately 250 acres before it was contained.

The fire occurred in the area between Farm-to-Market (FM) 148, Countryview Lane, Wynchase Lane, and U.S. Highway 175, according to Richards. Several homes in the area were threatened by the fire as firefighters from several surrounding agencies responded to the scene.

The fire was substantially contained around 4:30 p.m. and firefighters remained on scene until approximately 6:30 p.m. hitting hot spots.

Richards says firefighters have made a substantial attack on the fire despite unfavorable fire conditions.

Kaufman County Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie told inForney.com the efforts of the firefighters prevented several homes from imminent danger calling their efforts some of the most coordinated he has seen in his career. "They all deserve a big pat on the back," he said.

Firefighters from Crandall, Combine, Seagoville, Scurry, Terrell, Kaufman, and Forney responded to as mutual aid in several different capacities. The Kaufman County Office of Emergency Management is also on scene.

No injuries were reported in the blaze.

Fire investigators with the Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
