In fact, I've listed seven of those “things to do” below. The kids don't have to spend the summer at home playing video games, get out and enjoy Forney.

In fact, I've listed seven of those “things to do” below. The kids don't have to spend the summer at home playing video games, get out and enjoy Forney.
- Go to the park. Forney Community Park is big, beautiful, and offers plenty of places with shading. For the younger kids, there are two different playgrounds and even a small water-park area. Play tennis, shoot hoops, or call up your teenage friends and get a sand volleyball game going. Best part, it's free.
- Forney Sports Center. If you are looking to play inside where there is air conditioning and a concession stand, FSC is the place to be. This place will surely cure most youngsters boredom this summer. They offer basketball, batting cages, indoor soccer, volleyball, and dodgeball. Check out their website here for more information and pricing.
- Movies at the Forney Stadium 12 Starplex. There are some great movies coming out this summer, and matinees at Starplex cost only $5. Grab a $1 hotdog and catch a flick. Parents and kids could do this together, or you can save your teenager the embarrassment, and let them go with a friend.
- The Forney Arts Council will be offering art and music classes throughout the summer, for adults and kids too! They are offering Drama Camp, portrait drawing, painting time for kids ages 18 months to 5 years of age, Kindermusik, drawing and painting classes, and even an Art Camp in late July. Classes generally cost $40-$60 a month! For more info email music@forneyarts.org.
- Visit the Ellen Westbrook Memorial Library on the Forney High School campus. Some kids actually love to read in the summer, and spending time at Forney's only public library is a great way to find the perfect books. The library even has a reading club for children ages 3 years to 12 years of age. Call 972-564-7027 for library hours and for more information about the reading club and the events they have planned this summer!
- Official Paintball Games of Texas is a perfect way for the pre-teens and teens to kill the summer blues, make a mess, and burn off a lot of energy! This outdoor paintball facility is located at 17437 Adams Trail in Forney off of FM 740. Players must be at least 8 years of age, but the older, the better. They are open on weekends only from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. You can call them at 972-564-4748 or visit their website for more information!
- Volunteer! There are organizations in Forney that are usually accepting volunteers, such as the New Life Food Pantry, or the Layden Senior Citizens Center. There are no age restrictions if an adult is present with the kids, but you could volunteer to just do something nice for a neighbor. Is there an elderly person living near you? Maybe they could use a hand with the yard work? A great way to teach kids about having compassion and helping others, is to show them the example. Volunteering and helping others is a great way to spend some time this summer.
If none of those things appeal to the kids this summer, they can always help out with extra chores at home, right?
