FORNEY, Texas — North Forney High School FFA students recently planted crops to harvest for the Forney Food Pantry.

FFA students were brainstorming on ways to help the community when they decided to plant the crops to address the food pantry’s need for food, FFA President and North Forney High School junior Kara Langford told inForney.com.

The students planted approximately 1,000 onions which will be harvested in late May through June with the yields being taken to the food pantry weekly. The students will plant potatoes in the coming weeks for harvest in June for the same purpose of benefiting the food pantry.

This is the first year the North Forney FFA students have planted crops to benefit the pantry and Langford says the student hope to continue expanding the garden.

The seeds for the crops were donated by the Men's group at Fellowship Forney.

“It has been a great way to help bring our FFA closer together while knowing we are benefiting our community and also helping out people in need!” Langford said.

The North Forney High School FFA is hosting its annual dinner and auction on February 18, 2017, at 6 p.m. at North Forney High School.
