KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – One person was airlifted after a major rollover accident north of Terrell, Texas, on State Highway (SH) 34 on Sunday night, July 6, 2014.
The accident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. when a white truck traveling northbound on SH 34 passed a vehicle to the left, according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Trooper Kyle Bradford. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and went into a side skid which caused it to veer off the highway and roll several times. The truck vaulted over a barbed wire fence and came to a rest on its roof in a pasture approximately 30 yards from the highway.
The adult male, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was airlifted by a Medevac air ambulance to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, in serious condition. He was ejected from the vehicle, according to Bradford who said the driver is expected to be okay.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department and an East Texas Medical Center ambulance also assisted in the emergency efforts at the accident.
North and southbound SH 34 were closed temporarily to create a landing zone for the helicopter which was approaching from Greenville, Texas.
