One killed, another critical after vehicle strikes horse in dense fog overnight

KEMP, Texas — One person was killed and another sustained life-threatening injuries after a vehicle struck a horse on Farm-to-Market (FM) 148 in dense fog conditions early Sunday morning.

KEMP, Texas — One person was killed and another sustained life-threatening injuries after a vehicle struck a horse on Farm-to-Market (FM) 148 in dense fog conditions early Sunday morning.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Kyle Bradford tells inForney.com a 2014 Dodge Avenger was traveling northbound on FM 148, approximately eight miles west of Kemp, Texas, when the vehicle struck a horse which was in the middle of the northbound lane.

The crash occurred north of Randall Lane just south of Grays Prairie in between Kemp and Scurry.

Bradford says the horse was thrown over the vehicle, broke the front windshield, and peeled back the roof.

A front passenger, identified as Jazmine Trim of Mabank, Texas, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and remains in critical condition, according to Bradford. Another passenger, identified as 22-year-old Tyler R. Lay of Mabank, Texas, was pronounced deceased on scene. 21-year-old Willie James Brown of Rosser-Scurry sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Bradford says the crash occurred in dense fog conditions.

Initial information obtained from the Texas Department of Public Safety identified Brown as the deceased individual. Brown sustained minor injuries in the crash and the article has been updated with the correct information.
