At around 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, a detached garage and carport caught on fire in the 100 block of Brooks Street in downtown Forney. The homeowners, Bobby and Cheri Moreno, said that nobody was injured in the fire but they lost everything in their garage.
Bobby Moreno had just finished mowing the lawn minutes before he looked out his window and saw the garage on fire. Cheri said, Bobby alerted the family and then ran outside to use the water hose in an effort to control the fire. The Forney Fire Department responded very quickly and began containing the blaze.
The fire destroyed the garage that stored two restoration projects – a classic MG car and a Ducati motorcycle – , carpentry tools, and cleaning supplies and equipment used in Cheri's house cleaning business.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the quick efforts of a concerned citizen's 911 call and the Forney Fire Department prevented the fire from spreading to their household or the neighbors property.
