KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A slow moving storm system will bring multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms to Kaufman County and north Texas this week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

At 2:53 p.m., the NWS issued a Flash Flood Watch for Kaufman County from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Strong to severe storms are expected to develop west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Monday with Kaufman County facing a 20 to 40 percent chance of rain.

Monday’s storms are capable of producing large hail and, if temperatures continue to warm, damaging winds and tornadoes are possible. Areas west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex have the greatest chance of seeing thunderstorms this afternoon and into tonight.

“If temperatures warm more than currently anticipated, the damaging wind and tornado threat will increase,” according to the NWS. “Isolated instances of flash flooding will be possible as well.”

“A threat for severe weather will continue on Tuesday as a dryline mixes eastward towards North and Central TX,” stated the NWS.

“Isolated to scattered supercell thunderstorms should develop along the dry line and move northeast across North and Central Texas late Tuesday afternoon and evening,” according to the NWS. “These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.”

“Rain and thunderstorms will increase in coverage Tuesday evening and night with the greatest threat for damaging wind gusts and hail shifting south of the I-20 corridor,” the NWS stated. “Heavy rain will also accompany this round of rain and storms and localized flooding may also occur.”

Showers and storms will continue Wednesday morning with a heavy rain threat.
