SUNNYVALE, Texas — A multi-county pursuit began Friday morning after a vehicle rammed a Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office patrol car during a routine traffic stop.
Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Welch says a deputy attempted a traffic stop in Rockwall, Texas, near a Travel Centers of America (TA) truck stop on State Highway 205 near Interstate 30.
Welch says the vehicle came to a complete stop on SH 205 in the McLendon-Chisholm area of Rockwall County when the suspect, driving a white pickup truck, reversed toward the patrol car and rammed into it, at which time, the deputy fired at the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspect then fled southbound on SH 205 into Terrell, Texas, where the chase turned westbound on U.S. Highway 80, through Forney, and into Dallas County.
Dallas County Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to successfully deploy spike strips and deflate at least one of the truck’s tires. The suspect exited the highway and traveled south on Collins Road, eastbound in the westbound lanes of Clay Road, and into a retail center parking lot where the man surrendered without further incident — approximately 30 miles from where the pursuit began.
Welch says the man suffered some minor scraps but said its unknown, at this point, if those were a result of the shooting or not. The man was treated on scene by EMS and remains in police custody.
The man, who has not yet been identified, faces charges for evading arrest and possible charges for aggravated assault of a public servant.
Police are also investigating whether or not items were thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit including an area on the north service road in Forney.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Terrell Police Department, and Forney Police Department also briefly assisted in the pursuit.
