The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Kaufman County and surrounding areas beginning at 7 p.m. tonight and lasting through Wednesday. The alert calls for 2 to 4 inches of rain, with isolated instances of up to 7 inches possible.

Kaufman County Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Howie says that the public should remain “weather aware” tonight and for the next two days.

“We will continue to work diligently for our citizens as we monitor the incoming weather. The public should remain “Weather Aware” as we move through the evening and night. The rain will continue off and on through Wednesday.”

The National Weather Service stated, “Some storms will be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes all possible. Flooding will also be possible, especially where any training storms may occur.”

“The severe weather threat will continue through Tuesday before shifting southeast of the region Tuesday night. Flooding due to locally heavy rainfall will also be a threat through Wednesday.”

Emergency Management personnel remind the public not to drive through standing water and to ensure that they have supplies and access to resources in the case of an emergency or power outage.
