KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued for portions of north Texas, including Kaufman County, until 10 p.m.

Storms will continue to develop throughout the afternoon and evening hours in Kaufman County in front of a dryline.

“Storms will initially develop near and northeast of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, and spread east and southeast through the afternoon and evening,” stated the National Weather Service (NWS) in Fort Worth, Texas. “Some of these thunderstorms are likely to become severe.”

“The main hazards from severe thunderstorms will be wind gusts in excess of 60 MPH and hail larger than one inch in diameter,” stated the NWS. “While the tornado threat should remain generally low, a few isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.”

“Locally heavy rainfall may also result in minor flooding,” according to the NWS.

In the late afternoon, a line of thunderstorms is expected to develop as the dry line and cold front continue to shift east and southeast. Damaging winds and large hail are the main threats.

“The tornado risk will remain low, but may be enhanced for any discrete thunderstorms that persist or develop ahead of the main line, especially during the evening hours,” stated the NWS.

At 2:38 p.m., a Significant Weather Advisory was issued for a strong thunderstorm in southeastern Kaufman County moving northeast at approximately 40 miles per hour. Dim size hail is possible with this storm as it continues to intensify.
