“Sharing the Warmth” drive far exceeds expectations

An overwhelming response from the community helped the Sharing the Love Foundation far exceed their goal to collect, wrap, and deliver Christmas gifts to 100 local seniors. Not only was the foundation able to help 100 senior citizens in Forney, they were also able to help an additional 52 seniors in Terrell.

The gifts were in abundance and so were the volunteers. Nearly forty-five volunteers helped wrap gifts and deliver them. The gift wrapping was completed in just over an hour on Thursday night and the gifts were delivered on Friday.

Marian Stewart, founder and Director of Sharing the Love Foundation, said, “I really enjoyed seeing the eyes of the seniors light up when they open the doors. You see, none of them knew we were coming. When they asked where did the gift come from we told them "from their loving community". I am personally passionate about the well-being of seniors because I strongly feel that they are the pillars of our community; their past struggles and sacrifices have helped us to become who we are now.”

Stewart gave thanks to the many organizations, churches, volunteers, and the community for the successful "Sharing the Warmth" gift drive. Stewart said, “We would like to thank Dipping Dave's Ice Cream, Starbucks of Forney, Care United, and VIP Cleaners for being drop-off locations. Sharing the Love would like to thank all who participated in our first Christmas Senior Outreach, we are making a difference, one family at a time, to God be the Glory!”

Many of the senior citizens are also beneficiaries of the Meals on Wheels program. The Sharing the Love Foundation is a faith based non-profit that provides mentoring programs, as well as educational and job readiness opportunities for low income people and families in Kaufman County.
