The Forney Parks and Recreation Department has a problem, but it's the kind of problem that comes from something good happening in Forney, the Spellman Amphitheater. The Forney Parks and Recreation Department has a problem, but it's the kind of problem that comes from something good happening in Forney, the Spellman Amphitheater. Parks and Recreation is excited about the amphitheater build being completed, but they need a special events coordinator to help direct all the future events and concerts that will take place at Spellman.
They will be asking the Forney City Council to hire the special events coordinator and establish policies and procedures for the new addition to the Forney Community Park. Some of the topics yet to be voted on are the alcohol consumption issue inside the Spellman Amphitheater, ticketing, concession stands, and an anti-discrimination policy.
All of the policies will be important to the future of the Spellman Amphitheater. Parks and Recreation Director Richard Curry believes that at least four or more concerts with national acts can be held each year and that an additional six regional acts or shows can be booked each year. In addition to that, Curry and the Parks Board hope to use the amphitheater for at least 12 local acts yearly, including movies in the park, FISD events, and benefits. The very first concert to be held at Spellman Amphitheater will be a benefit concert hosted by the Kaufman County Children's Advocacy Center called “Hope for Little Hearts” on Saturday, June 23, 2012.
InForney.com staff members were given a private tour of the newly completed amphitheater, though Curry did explain that additional lighting and audio equipment will be installed in mid-July. The theater is simply beautiful, with an elegant blend of wood and stone. The stage is over 2000 square feet and there are additional rooms attached for band members to wait in and relax before they take the stage. Little Elm Magnolia trees were planted inside the gated venue and the turf/sitting area is Tif Bermuda grass. The amphitheater is truly a piece of art that Forney can be proud to have in this community.
