TERRELL, Texas – "Soldier", the sole surviving horse of the dreadful IH 20 accident on October 30, 2013, has returned home to Alabama. Soldier was being treated at Equine Veterinary Services in Terrell, Texas, after the accident.
“Soldier got to go home to Alabama today,” states a message from Equine Veterinary Services on their Facebook Page on November 5, 2013. “He was a great patient and definitely has earned his name. He loaded on the trailer this morning like he was ready for the next roping.”

“I would like to thank Dr. Arnold and Dr. Wickline on such an amazing job they did on Soldier. He made it back home and is in good spirits and will soon return to the roping pen,” said Joel Colgrove, Soldier's owner. “God definitely has a plan for this amazing horse.”
Colgrove also posted the follwoing to his Facebook: "I made this video [see below] of my head horses before the USTRC finals. What a coincident I did this, I am glad I did now so there will be a memory of such a good group of team roping horses. I hate they went the way they did in the accident I had, they did not deserve to die like that. Thanks for all of the support from all of my friends and the people that helped me that day."
Colgrove was traveling back to Alabama with his four horses after the U.S. Team Roping Championships in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, when his truck veered off the road and jackknifed, sending the trailer onto its side.
“I must have hydroplaned coming off of the ramp onto IH 20,” Colgrove told inForney.com last week. “It was a really bad accident. I don't think it could have been prevented.”
