TERRELL, Texas — A teen was injured and a cat perished in an overnight fire in the Terrell area.
At approximately 12:34 a.m., the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, College Mound Volunteer Fire Department, and the Kaufman Fire Department responded to the 7000 block of County Road (CR) 136 just southeast of Terrell.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy fire from a single-story home. Approximately 25 firefighters and 11 apparatus responded to the fire. “Firefighters mounted an aggressive attach and were able to quickly knock down the fire however, the home suffered heavy damage,” stated College Mound Volunteer Fire Department Safety Officer Terry Van Sickle.
The residents — a man, woman, and male teen — were home at the time of the fire and were able to escape the home along with their dog. Their cat was later found deceased inside the home.
The male teen was transported to a local hospital by CareFlite EMS for minor smoke inhalation, according to Van Sickle.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
The Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
