TERRELL, Texas — Terrell City Manager Torry Edwards has resigned and announced he will retire on December 3 after 17 years as the city’s top executive.
Edwards first began his career with the city of Terrell in 2002 as the Assistant City Manager. In August 2007, the City Council appointed him to serve as City Manager. Edwards is retiring with more than 25 years of multi-city management experience according to a city press release.
“The council is scheduled to meet on Thursday to discuss it options moving forward,” Terrell Mayor D.J. Ory tells inForney.com on Tuesday. Ory said that the city would make an announcement after Thursday’s meeting as to who will fill the Edward’s vacancy.
In September the council voted 4-1 to not renew Edward’s contract and approved a $30,000 disbursement to his supplemental retirement account. His current contract was set to expire May 31 of next year.
“Mr. Edward’s strong leadership has provided momentum for the city that will carry for many years,” Ory said in the release distributed by the city
