TERRELL - Terrell ISD is working with law enforcement to investigate an anonymous online threat aimed at Terrell High School on Monday, March 4th.
The statement released by the district to inForney.com is below:
βOn Thursday, February 29, Terrell ISD learned of an anonymous social media threat targeting Terrell High School for Monday, March 4. District police immediately began conducting an investigation and brought in two outside law enforcement agencies - the North Texas Fusion Center, who assists with threat assessments for schools, and a Special Agent in the FBI's Violent Crime Task Force - to determine if this was a substantiated threat.
District leaders also notified Terrell High School parents of the social media threat and shared the investigative steps being taken. Since Terrell ISD follows a four-day school week, students are not in session on Fridays.
At this time, the investigation is still ongoing. Terrell ISD will provide Terrell High School parents with an update via its REMIND text messaging service prior to the start of school on Monday, March 4.
Terrell ISD takes threats against the safety of students and staff seriously. The district encourages parents to speak with their child about making threats against the school and to explain to them that there are serious consequences even if the student is "just joking." Students who make threats, even if the threat is determined to be unsubstantiated, will be disciplined according to the Terrell ISD Student Code of Conduct up to and including expulsion and could face arrest for a terroristic threat.
As always the safety and security of our students is our number one priority.β
