TERRELL, Texas — An 18-year-old Terrell man was arrested over the weekend in connection with a burglary of a vehicle at a local motel and police say the arrest may clear several other area burglaries.
Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom says they began investigating a burglary of a vehicle on Saturday morning after a vehicle was reportedly burglarized while parked overnight at the Motel 6 located at 101 Mira Place. A Playstation PS4 gaming console was reportedly stolen from the vehicle.
After review of surveillance video, Sansom says the alleged suspect was identified as a known subject, 18-year-old Sean Micheal Allen, who was wanted on a warrant for burglary of a building. Witnesses also provided a possible vehicle description to police.
Sansom says while reviewing the surveillance video, Allen was also seen entering at least four vehicles while in commission of the reported offense.
A Terrell Police Department officer conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle, matching the description given by witnesses, identified Allen as a possible passenger in the vehicle.
“Allen gave a fictitious name and date of birth when contacted by the officer,” stated Sansom. “A Playstation in a box was visible, in plain view, inside the vehicle.”
“Consent from the vehicle owner was given to search and it was confirmed by serial number as the same item that was stolen earlier,” he said. “Allen was arrested at the scene.”
While at the Terrell Detention Center, Allen’s identity was confirmed by fingerprints and the warrant for burglary of a building was confirmed. Allen was charged with possession of marijuana under two ounces, due to a cigarette filled with marijuana being located on his person which weighed 1.1 grams; failure to identify as a fugitive or give false information; burglary of a motor vehicle; and the outstanding warrant for burglary of a building.
The stolen property was returned to the owner.
Sansom says other burglary cases remain under investigation and may be cleared with this arrest.
