Terrell, Texas – A Terrell man died in a head-on collision on Sunday morning, August 25, 2013. The accident occurred on FM 987 at the intersection with County Road 272 in Kaufman County.

All that remains at the scene days later are flowers, a cross, and the evidence of a terrible accident.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) spokesperson Kyle Bradford, James Parker, 32, was traveling south on County Road 272 and failed to stop at the intersection at FM 987. A woman traveling eastbound on FM 987 was unable to stop before colliding with Parker's vehicle.

The force of the impact threw both vehicles into the eastbound shoulder and through several sections of pasture fence. The impact also ejected Parker from the 2004 Chevy Trailblazer he was driving. Parker was then trapped under one of the vehicles after they settled and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Bradford, a blood draw was taken but he could not confirm if, in fact, alcohol was a factor. β€œThere are no indications of alcohol but it is still under investigation,” said Bradford.

Emergency personnel extricated the woman from her Ford Expedition and later transported her to Parkland Hospital. She suffered a fractured neck, fractured knee, and a torn spleen, according to a family member.

On Monday August 26, 2013, a different family member of the woman told inForney.com the victim is now recovering and is in good spirits asking for her makeup. Doctors believed if she survived she would be paralyzed. According to the family member however, there are no indications now that she will be paralyzed.
