TERRELL, Texas — Three veteran police officers with the Terrell Police Department volunteered their services to the Dallas Police Department during their time of mourning in wake of an attack which left five police officers dead and seven others injured.

This past week, the officers —a patrol officer of 21 years, a detective of 14 years, and another patrol officer of six years— volunteered their services to allow officers with the Dallas Police Department to attend the funerals of their fallen officers from their department and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Police Department.

The officers worked Dallas Police Department assignments at either a fixed post to provide additional security or on patrol duty partnered with a Dallas Police Department officer.

“Both large and small agencies from across the state, sent resources to Dallas in support and assistance,” Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom stated. “Our Terrell officers requested not to be identified as this was done not for recognition, but from their hearts as a show of support and respect for our lost brothers."

Dallas Police Department officer Patrick Zamarripa, 32, officer Michael Krol, 40, sergeant Michael Smith, 55, senior corporal Lorne Ahrens, 48, and DART officer Brent Thompson, 43, were all killed in the attack in downtown Dallas earlier this month.

“We are proud of our staff for volunteering these services and showing great respect during this tragic, senseless event,” stated Sansom. “Our hearts ache and our prayers are with the families of those that lost family, and close friends at the hands of this violent offender.”
