Moreno's death in November of 2012 sparked a community outcry against bullying. Moreno's family claimed her death was the result of bullying at Furlough Middle School where she was a student. TISD officials and campus police spent hundreds of hours reviewing information from leads and campus security footage and determined she was not involved in any sort of altercation at school.
Days after her death, a preliminary autopsy report from the Dallas County Medical Examiner revealed that there were “no signs of trauma or assault” on the body of Zusette Moreno. The Dallas County ME's final report supports those findings.
According to the statement from TISD, the TISD police department has officially closed the case.
