KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas – Traffic signal work has began this morning at the intersection of Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641 and Helms Trail.
Crews were marking utilities and placing construction signs in the area of the intersection earlier this morning. Crews are expected to begin drilling shafts on Tuesday, according to a TxDOT official.
The intersection has been a concern for area residents for several years because of the high rate of speed on FM 1641 and a blind curve as you approach the intersection from the south from IH-20. There is also a daycare located at the intersection which has been the scene of several major accidents over the past several years which have only increased with the population growth in the surrounding area.
Construction of the wire-hung signal is expected to take four to six weeks.
