Although on separate sides of the City of Forney, many residents from Travis Ranch and Windmill Farms are coming together to petition a change in the fireworks ordinance. These residents want restrictions on fireworks in neighborhoods in the county that are on less than an acre tracts.
The subdivisions are unincorporated communities on the outside of the Forney city limits in Kaufman County. Both communities also have HOAs that restrict the usage of fireworks in their communities.
One resident, Lyndsey Griffin, stated, "I am signing this because despite the legality of setting off fireworks in unincorporated areas of a county, it is unsafe and inconsiderate to set off fireworks in a subdivision." Others argue that these people moved into the county and knew exactly what they were getting in to, most moved for that reason.
Some residents are calling and blaming the Kaufman County Sheriffs Office for not responding and writing citations. KCSO cannot write citations enforcing an HOAs rules, they can only enforce laws from the State of Texas and county ordinances.
An online petition is being sent around, it was posted on change.org and is asking for 500 signatures. Since the petition began, days after the 4th of July, it has already received 70 e-signatures.
