SUNNYVALE, Texas — A pickup truck was struck by a tanker after it had already struck an 18-wheeler which was on the shoulder of the highway early Wednesday morning — which sent the driver of the pickup truck to a Dallas-area hospital.
Just before 4 a.m., the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and the Sunnyvale Fire Department responded to eastbound U.S. Highway 80 near Collins Road for the crash.
Deputies say the man driving the pickup truck drifted off the highway and into the back of the 18-wheeler which was parked on the shoulder of the highway. The impact caused the roof of the truck to be ripped off and sent the pickup truck into the center of the highway.
A tanker, reportedly hauling milk, then struck the pickup truck in the middle of the highway and sent it into the median.
The man was taken to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, by Sunnyvale EMS where he is expected to recover.
Eastbound U.S. Highway 80 was closed for several hours as crews worked to remove debris from the roadway and tow the truck from the scene.
Neither 18-wheeler driver suffered injuries.
