FORNEY, Texas — Two people were critically injured and one was airlifted to a Dallas-area hospital following a major collision in which emergency personnel worked for approximately an hour to extricate the two from the wreckage.

Police say a vehicle was traveling northbound on Farm-to-Market (FM) 740 when it allegedly crossed over the center line of the roadway and struck the rear door and quarter panel of a southbound vehicle just west of FM 460.

The northbound vehicle continued along the roadway, into the southbound shoulder, and struck a tree — which resulted in two people becoming entrapped inside the vehicle.

Firefighters worked for approximately an hour to extricate the two individuals from the vehicle.

One person was later flown by CareFlite medical helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, in what was described as critical condition. A second CareFlite helicopter was requested to the scene and, upon arrival, was disregarded. The second person, who was also descroibed as critically injured, was taken by ground ambulance to an area-hospital.

No injuries were reported for the individuals in the southbound vehicle.

The Forney Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene to provide additional manpower and for landing zone assistance and the Terrell Fire Department was on station standby at Forney Fire Department’s Central Station.

At 1:29 a.m., FM 740 reopened after wreckers cleared the two vehicles and debris from the roadway.

The Forney Police Department is investigating the crash.
