FORNEY, Texas — Two recent structure fires in Forney were ruled accidental and electrical in nature, according to fire officials.

The Forney Fire Department, assisted by multiple surrounding agencies fought two separate residential structure fires on Thursday, February 18, 2016.

The first fire was reported just before 1 p.m. in the 700 block of Azalea Drive at the corner of Forestwood Drive. A couch inside the home was reportedly on fire and had spread throughout the living room and hallway with the remainder of the home suffering smoke and heat damage, according to Forney Fire Department Captain Phillip Pyle.

The Terrell Fire Department, which is on automatic mutual aid on structure fires, assisted in extinguishing the fire. No injuries were reported.

The Azalea Drive fire was ruled electrical in nature and possibly caused by an extension cord or charging cable near the couch, according to Forney Fire Department Fire Marshal John Holcomb.

The second fire was reported at 11:30 p.m. the same day in the 500 block of Rosewood Lane.

The home was completely destroyed in the fire which quickly spread into the walls and attic due to the air moisture level and high winds, according to Holcomb who said the fire was ruled accidental. No injuries were reported.

The Forney Fire Department received mutual aid from the Terrell Fire Department, Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, Mesquite Fire Department, and the Sunnyvale Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to fend off the fire from spreading to the neighbors home which was threatened due to the high winds.
