FORNEY, Texas – The Texas Department of Transportation is holding a public meeting on a proposed expansion of U.S. Highway 80 from I-30 to Farm-to-Market (FM) 460 with an anticipated 2025 completion date.
The expansion couldn't come quicker for Kaufman-to-Dallas County commuters — especially with Kaufman County expected to be one of the fastest growing counties in the state over the coming years.
The public meeting will be held March 28, 2017, at North Mesquite High School at 18201 Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway in Mesquite, Texas, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Proposed improvements include reconstructing and widening the existing four-lane highway to a six-lane highway from Interstate 30 at the Mesquite-Dallas city limits to FM 460 on the western city limits of Forney.
“To accommodate the proposed improvements, ramps, bridge structures, and frontage roads would be reconstructed,” according to the TxDOT spokesperson Michelle Releford. “Additional right of way is anticipated along US 80.”
The 11-mile project is expected to cost approximately $740 million and is anticipated to begin construction in 2022 with a completion date in 2025.
TxDOT representatives and project consultants will be on hand at the public meeting to take public comment and answer questions.
