TERRELL, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on State Highway 34 north of Terrell on Wednesday afternoon.

According to preliminary crash investigation, two vehicles were traveling northbound on State Highway 34, north of Terrell, when the front vehicle, a Chevy Silverado, slowed to make a left turn, Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Kyle Bradford told inForney.com.

The back vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, failed to control its speed and struck the back of the Silverado — sending it off the highway and into a tree, according to Bradford. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Lathan Fink of Terrell, Texas, was transported to a Dallas-area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Friends and family say Fink, a U4/U6 PeeWee soccer coach with the Terrell Soccer Association, was always willing to lend a helping hand and will be remembered for his love for his wife and family. A GoFundMe account has been established to assist his wife with funeral costs, medical bills, and to ease the burden of a recent new-home purchase.
